Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Additionally, the position involves proofing and editing news releases and other written materials and assisting with organizational and production aspects related to Discoveries. The position includes principal management of online news, photography, video, blog and podcast assets technical oversight of the VC home page and news content, and digital files management in relevant platforms, such as iShare, and news distribution via Cision, Eurekalert, Newswise and other services. The Digital Communication and Media Specialist position will broadly serve in support of all of these efforts. The primary mission and purpose of Research Communications is to disseminate and promote news and advances emerging from UC San Diego Health Sciences to the public at large through news releases, media relations outreach and tracking and use of various communications tools, including relevant social media platforms, and the annual magazine Discoveries. The Research Communications team in the office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences at UC San Diego manages a vast and diverse enterprise, with an emphasis on the UC San Diego School of Medicine and related endeavors, but also encompassing collaboration and coordination with communications colleagues in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Longevity Science, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science and UC San Diego Health. This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.
